# What is a cold wallet?

* Cold Wallet (Cold Wallet), corresponding to hot wallets, is also known as offline wallets or disconnected wallets. One type of blockchain wallet refers to wallets where the network cannot access the user's private key. Cold wallets usually rely on "cold" devices (computers, mobile phones, etc.) to ensure the security of Bitcoin private keys, and use QR code communication to keep the private key from touching the Internet, avoiding the risk of being stolen by hackers, but may also face physical security risks (such as computer loss, damage, etc.).
* Store the private key on a device that is not connected to the network, including printing, hand-copying (paper wallet), and even self-reciting (brain wallet), to ensure absolute security during storage. However, when the above wallets perform transactions, the private key must still be entered into a general software wallet, and the highest standard cold wallet must also be able to sign offline, and only signed transactions must be sent out.
* The private key is stored in an additional special hardware device, and the transaction needs to be signed inside the hardware before submission. As long as the hardware is not cracked, it is absolutely safe. If this hardware device is completely offline and only submits signed transaction messages, it is also the highest standard cold wallet.

StarTower supports multiple public blockchains to create cold wallets. Please ensure that cold wallets are used in offline devices, otherwise it is pointless.
