# What is a keystore

Keystore file is a file format (usually in JSON format) for storing private keys. It is encrypted by a user-defined password to provide a certain degree of security protection, but the strength of encryption mainly depends on the complexity of the password chosen by the user.

Please pay attention to the following two important things to ensure safe use of Keystore.：

1. Please use a password that is not commonly used and as complex as possible to encrypt your Keystore file. This will increase the security of your wallet.
2. Be sure to remember the password used to encrypt your Keystore file. If you forget your password, you will not be able to access your Keystore file again.
3. StarTowerStarTower cannot help you retrieve your password. Therefore, please be sure to properly keep your Keystore file and password.

By following these recommendations, you can manage your Keystore files and wallets more securely.
