# What is a multi-signature wallet?

The counterpart of a multi-signature wallet is a single-signature wallet. When we want to send a transfer operation to the blockchain, we need to use the wallet to generate a signature. We sign it ourselves and send the transaction out. This is a typical single-signature wallet and also the wallet we commonly use.

Multi-signature wallet, as the name suggests, is a wallet that requires multiple people to sign to execute a certain operation. When using a multi-signature wallet for transfer, often ≥1 person needs to sign and send a transaction before the transfer operation can be completed. When using a multi-signature wallet, we can specify an m/n signature mode, that is, m people out of n people need to sign to complete the operation. For example, in the 2/3 signature mode, two people out of three need to sign.

The multi-signature of ETH/ERC20 (including EVM chains such as BSC/BEP20) adopts the smart contract method.

Applicable scenarios:

1. Used when multiple people are needed to manage assets to avoid assets being misappropriated by individuals.
2. Multiple signatures are used to perform multiple encryptions on assets to enhance asset security.
3. Other security application scenarios.
